Dam saw the back of Jainer’s head a few stalls ahead. If his distinctive ears hadn’t been enough, then there was the fact that he was wearing work coveralls complete with his last name “YASSI” stitched in bold chartreuse letters across the shoulders. Jainer took great pride in his work hauling and sorting in the subquarry - signing up for five shifts a week, which was the maximum allowed. This attitude of throwing himself into his work extended outside of shifts at the subquarry: if ever there was an opening for tillers, Jainer would sign up to work as many rows as he could get away with. When it was time to harvest or glean, likewise, he put his name down for as many hours as he could.

Sardonically, Dam wondered if Jainer got a special dispensation for a second icebox, considering all the gifts that must come his way. He wondered ((DRY)) if Jainer was happy, or trying to fill a hole, like Dam with his discs.
