Over the next few two decades, the topic of the impending comet (eventually the name “Didi” stuck, apparently a humorous reference to entertainer at the time) came in and out of the media feeds, as the markets crashed and destabilised. The people at the time didn’t realise it back then, but Didi only came to prominence in the feeds when the markets were on an uptick, but then attempts to react to it quickly (2-5 years) sent them crashing back down. (( Capitalism can make use of anything, even existential/civilizational threats. ))

Eventually something real happened: The families AAA and CCC joined forces against those on Mars, and what began as an embargo eventually turned to all out war. Unfortunately, Mars and its satelites were dependent on both Earth and the outer assets for vital trade, so even without the threat of weaponised asteroids, that CCC capitulated and was pillaged by the two remaining families.

That might have been the end of the feuding, if CCC hadn’t invested so heavily in war future. They had fleets of asteroids ready to strike the inner planets, and a lot of investor capital that wanted more than a few of Mars’ mining moons.

And so the inter feeds started to rattle with questions about how Earth was taking all the inner planets for itself, and leaving nothing for more open minded investors. What about the future of deep space, and of the mining potential for the Kuiper belt? Earthers and AAA, it was said, only cared about hanging on to their little inner fiefdom—and what about Didi? (( Markets crash lol. )) Sure, the latest facts showed that it would miss the inner planets, but what if it didn’t? There was some interesting technology coming out of CCC suggesting that even an asteroid of Didi’s scale could be nudged in a more productive direction - say one that would open up entire new markets for a family who wasn’t tied down to a few fat inner planets.

(( TMI about asteroid, constant updates deluge and overwhelm people. ))

(( If there’s a story here, this data dump isn’t it. ))
